
After an extensive and thorough planning application process that required careful consideration and numerous consultations, the green light was finally given to us. This approval allows us to embark on an important project aimed at sympathetically lightening the dark carbon staining that has accumulated on the front façade of the building over time. The staining, a result of environmental factors and pollution, has significantly affected the aesthetic appeal of this historic structure. Our approach will not only focus on the removal of these unsightly marks but also ensure that the methods employed are in harmony with the building's architectural integrity and historical significance. In addition to addressing the staining, we will also carry out essential stone replacements and repairs. This aspect of the project is crucial, as it involves assessing the condition of the existing stonework, identifying areas that have suffered from wear and tear, and replacing stones that are beyond repair. Our skilled team will meticulously select replacement stones that match the original material in terms of both appearance and durability, ensuring that the building retains its character while being restored to its former glory. This comprehensive restoration effort is not just about aesthetics; it is a vital step towards preserving the building for future generations, enhancing its longevity, and maintaining its historical value within the community.
After the masonry was meticulously cleaned, revealing the true condition of the building's exterior, it became abundantly clear that the entire cornice, which serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose in protecting the structure from water damage, required complete replacement. The deterioration was more extensive than initially anticipated, necessitating careful planning and execution of the restoration process. Furthermore, significant portions of the lower string course, which provides visual continuity and structural support, were found to be compromised, thereby demanding substantial repair work to ensure the integrity of the façade. In addition to these major components, the project also called for the installation of new cills, which are essential for directing rainwater away from the building and preventing moisture infiltration. To enhance the architectural detail and maintain the historical character of the structure, two new carved pierce panels were deemed necessary. These panels, intricately designed and crafted, would not only replace those that had succumbed to wear and tear but also contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the building, ensuring that it remains a visually striking and historically significant landmark.
